For our first season working with Hikerkind, we had the pleasure of spearheading new product design and elevating their core line through construction and branding—products made for high-performance outdoors without sacrificing a feminine style and fit.
When we started, we worked to outline and define a design language and approach to the product. This helped be our north star and reference as we built and expanded the line.
For spring 2024, Hikerkind wanted to diversify its bottoms assortment and speak to a new consumer. We made sure to retain the ethos and language, pulling from classic references like vintage Margret Howell, all while keeping performance and durability at the forefront. We landed on adding in a skort, balancing the silhouette's inherent femininity with performance materials and construction.
As we continued to diversify the bottoms assortment, we knew that a legging and base short made for the outdoors was a white space that had yet to be cracked. The challenge was to build leggings in durable fabric to withstand scrambling and hiking through trails, as well as storage and the coverage and comfort of wearing pants. We also wanted to ensure that Hikerkind’s elevated design language was retained and that it didn’t feel redundant in the market. We tested many fabrics, worked through construction and stitching options, and landed on a product we’re all proud of.
